The Anatomy of the Ego:
The Science of Concentric
Sphere Shifting™

Part One

"This book is a letter addressed to the inmates of a prison. It's a strange prison, because within its walls lie mountains and rivers and sunsets. It contains rare birds and rare diseases, mini-dramas, maxi-dramas, melodramas, and the latest DVDs. The prison has not a name, but over the years its inmates came up with one, and it stuck. They call it . . . life."
- Rabbi Michael Berg (Becoming Like God)

What is the EGO and Concentric Sphere Shifting?

Basically, concentric sphere shifting means moving emotionally to a new point of observation or level of consciousness. The ego is nothing more than a neurological system of measurement designed to defend and maintain points of observation or levels of consciousness.

The moment we learn to reprogram the ego to a new set point, through the proper setting of intention, we automatically move to the next level of consciousness. The ego now defends that new level of consciousness, or point of observation, just as it protected the previous level.

Sometimes labeled bad, the ego is not good or bad, but, rather, a homeostasis-producing, neurological function/process within the Big Brain (Neocortex). Spiritual evolution requires a functioning ego. In fact, the ego proves absolutely necessary for our learning from each cycle/level the ego sustains. When we move to another concentric sphere, the ego sets up internal and external gates, fences, and obstacles to protect, defend, and sustain that new, current level of consciousness it labels reality.

Any person, place, or circumstance that comes along to expand or contract this reality, the ego and the operators of the brain (see part 3) automatically reject it and set up a series of barriers to psyche us back to our present state or comfort zone. Moving from one concentric sphere to the next poses quite a challenge-our fight/flight biology wants to stabilize us and keep us safe (not knowing there's no safety in standing still). Remember principle 4 of The SHOCKphilosophy™? DNA is what you are, DIVINE is who you are. Our ego (i.e., homeostasis) is a function of our psychological DNA.

This means the ego fights to maintain a reality, either positive or negative, just to preserve what we currently see, accept, believe, and live. In the book, The Essential Charles Fillmore, Fillmore says, "You are a walking picture, flashed by the camera of your mind into visible manifestation." And the ego/homeostasis fights to maintain that visible manifestation.

According to Merriam Webster's Collegiate Dictionary (10th edition), homeostasis is a relatively stable state of equilibrium, or tendency toward such a state, between the different but interdependent elements, or groups of elements, of an organism, population, or group.

Over the years, the popular spiritual literature defined, or labeled, the function of homeostasis in many different ways. Fundamental Christianity called it the devil. Religious Science labeled it error. Metaphysics defined it as personality. And the Kabbalah lists it as opponent. In fact, however, the opposite of good is not evil or bad, but simply a label we ascribe to it to language our point of observation. And the ego fights to manifest the reality of these labels.

SHOCKfacts about the EGO: Our Biological/Psychological Homeostatic Set Point

  • Homeostasis preserves the memory of ourselves as a holographic replica of who we used to be just seconds ago.
  • Designed as a mechanism of measurement, the Ego is not a mechanism of control.
  • Homeostasis creates an illusion of the moral chemicalization known in metaphysical doctrine.
  • We are genetically programmed to challenge change.
  • A challenge poses nothing more than a homeostatic test to prepare us for next-level reality.
  • Like a thermostat, homeostasis regulates the levels between our extreme success and extreme failure.
  • Homeostasis rejects next-level thinking-positive or negative.
  • Homeostasis defends any level of consciousness we reach.
  • We must set a new level of consciousness for the ego and homeostasis to defend.

In The Anatomy of the Ego, Part Two, I will share with you The Composition of the EGO; What Does the EGO Protect and Defend; and The EGO and Symptoms of The Reality Loop.
