Are
You
Spiritually Literate?

is within a human's personality matrix to go beyond their current
reality, where they come upon and then use some method of actualization."

The
more I travel around the world, the more I speak at various churches
and organizations, the more I recognize a growing epidemic that's been
around for quite some time. Now moving to the forefront of our lives
is . . . spiritual illiteracy!
According
to a recent Gallop Poll, a purported 46 percent of Americans believe
God created humans in their present form within the last 10,000 years,
or so.
Is it possible to be highly educated and academically gifted, and
yet be spiritually illiterate? Have you dedicated as much time to
your spiritual education as you have your academic education? Have
you asked yourself the deepest "how" and "why"
questions and compared various spiritual practices, philosophies,
and ideologies as you would for researching for mid-terms, or your
dissertation?
According to Bettye Johnson, author of Secrets of the Magdalene Scrolls,
and writer of a blog entry entitled: "The Origins of Religion,"
"The origins of religion began when God was placed outside the
human, meaning the human was to worship a god, or gods, that was not
within. Religion is a format for control and to keep the human in
slave mentality."
Here's another interesting and stinging question: Have you put equal
study into your own spiritual evolution, or have you settled for a
weekly message from a tithe-motivated messenger that temporarily satiates
you without growing or challenging you?
Many academically accomplished individuals have the hardest times
expanding their spiritual views and adopting new spiritual insights-they've
been taught to be right and successful in their business, career,
and academically competitive world.
Is it possible that some of the most academically brilliant minds
can be as spiritually literate as a grade-school dropout such as myself?
Yes, it is possible, but most frightening when spiritually illiterate
academes are given the power to set moral laws that are fundamentally
based on corrupted and manipulated doctrine.
Forty-year theologian and faculty member of The SHOCKphilosophy Institute
of Advanced Manifestation, Dr. Miceal Ledwith, had this to say about
the corruption of scripture.
"Most fervent Christians of all varieties believe the Bible,
especially the New Testament, contains the inspired, written words
of God. They believe God sent those words, in some shape or form,
directly down from Heaven, via the equivalent of e-mail or fax, or
communicated through the direct inspiration of every word written
down by the authors of the biblical books.
Unfortunately, we do not have those original copies of any of the
books of the Bible, not even of the New Testament. What we do have:
multiple generations of error-ridden, edited, censored copies of those
originals.
For the first three centuries of its existence Christianity promoted
a religion judged illegal and criminal. Christians, themselves, were
considered fugitives and renegades. Copying the Bible's original documents
was carried out by amateurs, in far-from-ideal circumstances, no matter
their diligence and devotion.
The original versions of the books of the New Testament were written
in Greek, and they were unprofessionally copied throughout the first
300 years before Christianity became the state religion under Constantine.
Approximately 5,700 Greek manuscripts of the Bible survive today,
even though some manuscripts contain only small fragments of the texts.
Of these texts, only ten contain the full Bible as we know it today,
and only four of these originated earlier than the tenth century!
Some scholars estimate that in that collection of manuscripts, as
many as 400,000 entries differ with all other manuscript entries.
To put that in context, as one noted biblical scholar expressed it,
more variations exist in the text of the New Testament than there
are words in the New Testament.
So, in what sense can we claim the scriptures express the inspired,
written words of God, since so much uncertainty exists about the accuracy
of those words?
Some of these variations in the text are simply accidents of scribal
copying. Some were deliberate changes to accommodate different theological
points of view, or to ensure that sacred scripture corresponded to
the teachings of the early church-the reverse of what one would think
the correct procedure! Good examples of these changes, among many
others: any change regarding whether Jesus was divine or human, or
a combination of both; or the status of women in the early Church.
For centuries, Christian believers all throughout the English-speaking
world have loved The King James Version of the Bible, especially for
its classically beautiful English prose. Unfortunately, the King James
Bible translates one of the most corrupted of the surviving Greek
texts.
Many of our most-cherished beliefs-the divinity of Jesus, the nature
of the Holy Trinity, and many central Bible stories we remember from
childhood-were based on either deliberate changes to, or accidental
copying of, biblical text. Obviously, knowledge of these very matters
proves essential for anyone wishing an in-depth understanding of fundamental
matters concerning human life and destiny before God.
To give you an example of acute spiritually illiteracy, I was once
speaking to a lady named Mary, who was an engineer, and happened to
greet her with, "Buddha bless you." She immediately blurted
out, "I'm not blessed by anyone but Jesus! Buddha can't do anything
for me." I suppose she didn't know about the corruption of scripture
mentioned by Dr Ledwith, or the fact that Jesus went to India to study
with the great spiritual masters of that time-Buddha being one of
them.
THE
SPIRITUAL EXTREMISTS
What
about spiritual academes? Scientists of spirituality who purport to
have all the answers to our evolving self (or humanity) but whose personal
lives read like a drugged-out rock star's, vastly contradict their depth
of spiritual education and power to manifest a new reality. Apparently
for some, knowledge and education beget spiritual arrogance, a function
of the ego/homeostasis that protects one's point of observation, or
level of consciousness. However, only wisdom breeds spiritual humility.
Is it possible that the most academically illiterate person can yield
unchartable (high) levels of spiritual wisdom and evolution? Can someone
with no academic degree spiritually expand their consciousness and evolve
beyond the academic equivalent of an individual with a doctorate in
nuclear physics? Not knowing big, fancy words and having a difficult
time explaining yourself does not diminish you spiritually. In fact,
you may be more evolved than the minister who can recite countless streams
of scripture!
Can the academically accomplished humble themselves enough to download
the wisdom from non-academic sources? Do they have the innate ability
to recognize and know truth without the certainty of scientific study
and confirmation? Are they in tune with their hearts to know when the
Quantum Superposition (God) speaks directly to them and guides them?
BECOMING A SPIRITUAL
SCIENTIST
Do
you have the ability, at your current level of consciousness, to become
a spiritual master, regardless of your academic education? What an oxymoronic
question! Have you ever asked a monk for a resume and to perform brain
surgery? But have you ever asked the brain surgeon to bless and pray
for a safe and sure operation?
Let's take this month . . . and the rest of our lives . . . to work
at humbling our polarities between spiritual sense and book sense. Let's
not be afraid to admit our limited knowledge and experience of spiritual
evolution. Let's begin challenging ourselves spiritually as if studying
for mid-terms; or better yet, for our doctorate!
How will you affect the quantum field when you actually research and
study the magnificence of your personal creation and spiritual evolution?
When you study math at its highest level, you obtain a doctorate and
become a mathematician. So, what would you become when you study all
available aspects and interpretations of God (Quantum Superposition)
and ancient doctrine to obtain the highest level of spiritual wisdom?
A God, perhaps?
THEOLOGICAL INQUISTION
In
a blog entry entitled "Breaking the Spell of Faith," Dr. Susan
Blackmore cites noted philosopher, Dan Dannett: "theological inquisition,
or questioning, is absolutely necessary if we are to grow beyond the
fire-and-brimstone, hell-and-damnation, primitive religious doctrine
that is under worldwide scrutiny with books and movies like the 'Da
Vinci Code' and the Celestine Prophecy. In that same blog entry, Dr.
Blackmore paraphrased Dannett's argument that "religion should
be investigated like any other natural phenomenon. We need to find out
from where the memes of religion came, how they evolved, what functions
they serve for the people infected with them, and how they pay their
way-for practicing a religion is a very expensive occupation in terms
of money, time, and effort. What's the pay-off?"
Below is a list of questions that came to my mind while pondering spiritual
literacy. I would like for you to take the time and answer them for
yourself. Depending upon your level of indoctrination and theological
construct (see The SHOCKphilosophy | Memetic Constructs),
you may find it nearly impossible to just read the questions without
trying to answer them.
Please
note that these questions are not for the spiritually faint at heart,
and are designed exclusively for spiritual seekers, not religious followers
who operate only from a one-dimensional plane.
The
SHOCKphilosophy Spiritual Literacy Questionnaire:
[Partial List]
1.
Are you, or have you been, afraid to ask larger questions about
God and your divinity?
2. Do you know what questions to ask your spiritual leader that
will evolve you verses keeping you repeating the same reality?
3. Have you been reprimanded for asking challenging questions and
feared being ostracized from your church community?
4. Do you believe that all spiritual knowledge stems from one book,
or doctrine, and embraces only 2000 years of information?
5. Are there prayers you have prayed, that after many years they've
still not been answered?
6. Do you get angry, or annoyed, when someone asks you questions
about your faith that you can't answer?
7. How many other religious texts have you read other than the Bible?
8. In how many other faiths have you worshiped? How many churches
have you attended other than your primary church?
9. Do you believe that your faith is the only way and your religion
is the only religion that is right?
10. Do you believe that you were born in sin and are inherently
no good and not worthy?

At
The SHOCKphilosophy Institute of Advanced Manifestation we create spiritually
educational templates to answer many of these and many more question
about our spiritual evolution and quest. It is only those who are afraid
to ask the bigger questions that put up the biggest fight and threatens
to take the lives of others for not believing in their way.
Before
America was introduced to the religious extremes of Jihad, there have
been countless murders, suicides and genocides produced in the name
of modern-day Christianity, Catholicism and other mainstream religions.
Bettye Johnson says, "It is documented that Christian Crusaders
roasted live babies in front of their mothers and ate them. Those who
have left religion are to be blessed for they have the minds that can
evolve them to freedom. Seeking knowledge is a great way to move into
freedom. True freedom is the freedom of mind to think for oneself and
not follow the herd mentality. When one can read the Bible with detachment,
it seems that unnoticed items leap out and give us a new perspective."
